Nairn sailing club has been fortunate in recently being chosen by the RYA as one of the clubs that they would like to help to develop further. On Saturday 29th November a winter workshop was held at the club. Members of the RYA attended and held workshops/seminars with the aim of advising and help facilitate club members to develop the club and take it forward to a sustainable future.
About 20 people attended and feedback has been very positive; finding the day very informative especially on the assistance the RYA can provide.
It has been noted that there was a lot of group discussion around various points. This in turn led to the raising of issues during the dinghy meeting held on the 5th December with regard to the way dinghy sessions are currently run and the training opportunities the club may wish to offer. Subsequently an online survey has been emailed to all members to assess the current capabilities presently existing within the club and how to increase participation of club members in club activities. To be useful we would encourage members to complete the survey please.
The RYA have fed back that they feel we have excellent facilities both on and off shore to host events, and offer training for all levels. The online 'Toolbox' they have developed offers many suggestions for clubs to work through eg planning an open day and how to get the most from it.
All in all a very useful day.
