Weekend Racing Results

Nan MacLean

On Saturday six boats raced for the Nan MacLean. This was a passage race, so we did not race round our usual scientifically prepared course. Heading out to the East Riff then down to the South Buoy and back home. The day was a fine one and winds were stronger than predicted, which certainly favoured Charlie skippered by Paul & Mary Chaplin. They came home a good first followed seventy seconds later by Robert Gordon skipper of Amrita. Ken Killham took Alouette to third place.

The Challenge Handicap was won by Amrita; second place Charlie and another third place for Alouette.

Junior Helm
Sunday was the turn of the Maxwell Junior Helm. Eleven young people turned up and quickly found themselves a yacht to sail on. It was not clear whether it was the handsome skippers of the larger boats that were the attraction...

Winds were averaging 13 knots from the North East as the six boats went round the Nairn race course anti clockwise, then finishing with a sausage ( look up sailing courses if you don't know what that means). Again Charlie, with Junior Helms Rachel Suddick and Maddy Pearce crossed the finish line first but handicap put them in second place by eleven seconds behind Alouette with Junior Helms Faye MacInnes and Ellie Pearce Amrita came in third thirty seven seconds later with Junior Helms Harry Barron and Sam Conolly.

They were all brought back safely with big smiles having performed very well indeed on what for them were very large monsters. (The boats not the skippers..).
