Aberdeen & Stonehaven yacht Club will be staging their own Junior Fun regatta in a couple of weeks time, on Sunday 29th May. This regatta is aimed at all our Junior sailors, including those that have only just started sailing. We would like to take this opportunity to invite surrounding sailing clubs to this event so kids can meet other children their age with the same hobby and passion. We will be sailing in club training Oppies, Toppers, an RSFeva as well as a handful of private Optimists, Toppers and other larger boats.
Sailing will take place at our club venue of Loch Skene. http://www.asyc.org.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=183:dinghy-parking-site-skene&catid=29:facilities&Itemid=106 map reference 57.162991,-2.356356. The sailing club lies on the A944 Aberdeen to Alford Road, just to the West of Westhill. Check out the ASYC website for more information.
Registration will be at 10 am on Sunday 29th May with racing starting about an hour afterwards. Though registration is free please let me know if you plan to come so we can make appropriate catering arrangements. A BBQ will sell food throughout the day, both for carnivorous and vegetarian competitors and parents/siblings.
We will run a series of short races in the morning. After fortifications we will have a couple of games. There will be prizes for all. As we have two children sharing a boat for lessons we are unfortunately unlikely to be able to offer any travellers any of our club boats and you will have to bring your own, if you cannot rustle up a boat contact me closer to the time so I can see if I can find a boat withing ASYC. (Note to NSC Juniors: speak to Paul or Robert if you want to borrow a NSC dinghy). I hope to have the least experienced kids sail with adults in private Mirrors or similar, though we are likely to have several Laser entries from our bigger kids. These bigger boats will form the general handicap class. There will also be starts for Racing Oppies, Training Oppies and Toppers.
The event should finish around 16:30, giving everyone the opportunity to travel home ready for school on Monday. I look forward to welcome you to ASYC soon.
