Matthew Scott travelled to Loch Lomond last weekend to compete in his first Optimist Traveller Regatta. He sailed in a strong Regatta Fleet of 12 junior sailors and came 4th overall after 2 days of racing. The first day was very windy with 18 knots and big waves coming down the loch, and occasionally into his boat. Matt got his best result in these difficult conditions, coming 2nd in the first race.
Sunday was calmer and the sailors completed 6 races in all. This was Matthew's first competition sailing a racing Optimist, and he managed to impress the race organisers with his debut performance. He also scooped the prize for furthest travelled and says he had a great weekend!
Well done to Matthew (and Angie) for being the first Nairn Junior (and Mum) to make it to a Optimist Traveller Series event, and for Matt's very promising results.
