Regrettably the Novice Helm for the Harvey Salver had to be cancelled due to the River being in full spate. It will now be run along with another Race on the Saturday19th September.
Weekend 19th-20th September
This weekend was set aside for the postponed races and as such it will be utilised to complete the Race Calendar. Two races will be run on Saturday, one of which will be the Novice Helm and one on the Sunday. The briefings will be 10.00hrs on the Saturday and 10.30 on the Sun. We hope to have a combined Barbecue with the Dinghy Sailors from Whiteness in the club yard or clubhouse. So bring along a few burgers and rolls.
Whiteness Head Sunday 6th September
Despite the very strong winds we had several boats on the water. Steve and Christine with full rigs on the Toppers enjoyed some exciting sailing. For Fiona and Gina several reefs were taken and they did remarkably well. Christine even managed to take some youngsters out without mishap. Clem Cuthbert and his son managed to keep their Bosun Dinghy upright despite the conditions. All in all it was another very good day.
We only have one session left at Whiteness on Sunday 20th September at 1200hrs. We hope to have a Barbecue to finish with back at the Clubhouse so bring some burgers and rolls
This years craning out will be significantly different from any that have gone before. The inevitability of Health and Safety Regulations and compliance with Crane Directives has finally impacted upon us. That it has coincided with so many boats listed for coming out is unfortunate. We have had to enter into a Contract Hire with the crane company which will be more expensive. Shared among so many boat owners it should not be much more than previous years.
To ensure that everything goes as smoothly as possible a meeting will take place in the Clubhouse on Friday 25th September at 7.30pm
· Any member requiring to have they're boat craned out MUST attend this meeting or send a representative
· Because of the number of boats requiring to be craned out this year yard space will be very tight. It has therefore been arranged to erect temporary fencing to the north and south of the yard. One end will be utilised to store all the dinghies, trailers and masts. The over-spill of boats (most probably those with bilge keels) will be located on the grass to the south of the yard.
· Priority will be given to those members not craned out last year.
· Members should bring a copy of proof of insurance to the meeting
· It is the intention to run through preparation, craning procedure (which may be different to that adopted previously) programme and yard layout.
A small Sub-committee has been formed to oversee this activity. If you have any queries therefore please direct them to Bob Gordon, Ian Archibald, Robbie Czaja, Ken Kilham, Duthie Hay or Fred Woodcock.
