Saturday, 13th June, saw Nairn Sailing Club host 10 visiting boats for its annual Regatta. In total 16 boats competed in a shortened programme, down to one race, due to the light wind conditions.
The course, starting from the Russet buoy, outside the harbour, headed east to a mark off the Bar. With 16 boats there was a lot of jostling on the line but it was a clean start. With the wind from the east the boats had to make several tacks to reach the mark with many taking advantage of the slacker tide in the shallows off the east beach.
Rounding the mark saw many fly their spinnaker for a long reach back past Nairn to the west mark just off the Nairn Golf Club. With the large downwind sails stowed it was a close reach back to the finish line at the Russet Buoy.
Line honours were taken by a Nairn boat, Oink but after handicap the final results were 1st, Rhapsody, 2nd Eleanor (NSC) and Duo 3rd. As well as the open Regatta title, Nairn boats were competing for the Buchan Cup. Eleanor took 1st place followed by Oink, 2nd and Pirate of Pin Mill 3rd.
Two visiting boats stayed over in Nairn and joined the rest of the club to celebrate the Regatta and take part in the annual games night. Having enjoyed a bar supper people were split into teams to test their sailing knowledge and limerick writing. It was a good evening and great to see many of the club's new members, especially the children, enjoying themselves.
