Wilson Pursuit

A dramatic change in the weather brought very light winds on Sunday for the Wilson Pursuit race. In a pursuit race the boats set off in reverse order of handicap, the slowest going first, with the aim that after 2 hours all the boats finish level. A short leg to the north east saw Bayard and Hillarity set off first but they struggled to make headway in the light winds. Bayard rounded the mark first with Amrita, Highland Mist and Windchat contesting second place. Then it was up with the spinnakers for the downwind leg to a mark north of Nairn Golf Club. Bayard was overhauled with Allouette making up the most ground but rounding the mark to head back to Nairn brought advantages for the lighter boats. Amrita (Robert Gordon) chose a different line from the rest of the fleet and it paid off with better winds and he pulled ahead to finish first at the two hour mark with Windchat (John Maher) in second and Highland Mist (Fred Woodcock) a close third.
