The Craig Cup, the first race of the season, saw 7 Nairn Sailing Club boats start in light ENE winds and a thin sea mist. The course, a windward leg from the Russet Buoy, eastwards, to a mark off the Bar, and the return downward leg back to the Russet Buoy was completed twice. It was a clean start after some jostling on the line. Flukey winds made rounding the upwind mark difficult with a number of boats being caught too low and having to put in an additional tack to pass the mark to starboard. Spinnakers certainly had the advantage on the downward leg in the light airs. Jaybee took line honours followed by Alouette, Windchat and Amrita. With handicap taken into account the top three positions were Jaybee, Windchat and Amrita.
