Please welcome Racing Optimist GBR 4188 to Nairn SC, the latest addition to our club fleet, ideal for sailors up to 60kg in weight and 15 years old....which means in fact most of the NSC junior section.Angie delivered it up the A9, and Christine, Gary and Robert rigged it last week. A good wee boat, evidence of an active life up til now, but plenty of miles left to go.

The advantages are : Fibreglass hull: lighter, faster , more responsive and a racing rig: working controls, tuneable for the conditions. There is a lot to learn in this boat, beyond what you can do in the club oppies. How to tune the rig and tell when the boat is feeling well balanced and fast is a an important skill.

Disadvantages are it takes a little longer to set up properly and it is more easily damaged if not used correctly, so we will have to assign use of it during club sessions to those who have had some specific training.

Come and see why the Optimist is the largest , and the largest growing, junior class of dinghy in the world
