North of Scotland Squad

by Unknown - 00:28 on 20 March 2012

Four members of the Nairn Sailing Club Dinghy Section have successfully completed their winter training as part of the North of Scotland Sailing Squad. Selection for regional squads took place last September during a challenging weekend of sailing at Largs. Nairn members selected were Calum C, Henry K, Mathew S for the Optimist Squad and Christina L for the Topper Squad. They all attended the five weekend training camps held at Lochcarron and Chanonry Sailing Clubs, and developed their racing skills in a range of winter weathers under the supportive coaching of Paul Bartlet, Kian Sterrit and Richard Evans.

The Nairn team will continue to work towards the Moray Firth Scottish Youth Series Regatta to be held at Fortrose in June. This is a major ranking event coming to the North of Scotland for the first time. The Nairn Sailing Club is co-hosting the event along with the Chanonry Sailing Club .

We would encourage other local youngsters to get involved in this confidence building sport. Nairn Sailing Club Dinghy Section restarts sessions on the 8th April at Whiteness and welcomes new members.
