The Clubhouse

The Clubhouse is located at Nairn harbour, overlooking the Moray Firth. The bar is open on Friday evenings from 21:00 hrs.

Cruiser Racing

We are using two handicapping systems; the results are calculated using a yacht's published CYCA number as published and the Club's Funcap system based on the CYCA but modified after each race.
The Funcap system was introduced to give more incentive to those of us who enjoy racing to have some chance of a result even if our abilities may not be the best in the Firth! The inaccuracies of the CYCA system in a small mixed fleet can also be eliminated. The disadvantage of the Funcap system is the results may heavily depend on crew ability and may penalise the better sailors.

The Funcap system works by selecting the first boat under CYCA and calculating the handicap achieved in the race by every boat. The Funcap number for the next race would be increased or decreased by 50% of the difference between the handicap achieved and the last Funcap number. All is calculated painlessly by the computer.

When a new entrant joins the racing the boat starts off with the CYCA number (skippers are encouraged to apply for a CYCA handicap) and it will need at least one race result to allocate a Funcap number, after then the system should work quite well.

Please enter a few races to get a Funcap number calculated - the more boats we have in the system the better the overall results will be. The best part of the Funcap method is that a Skipper can easily see if he is improving as the number will reduce when good results are achieved.

If anyone would like a detailed explanation please ask at the Clubhouse on a Friday night.

Race Fees: There is a £10 one-off entry fee for all races, provided it is paid before 1 June. (Payment after 1 June or single entries is £5 per race.)

The Club Championship

The points series that runs throughout the season awards points for each race as follows:
1st Place = 0.75 points
2nd Place = 2 points
3rd Place = 3 points and so on.

If you start but don't finish (DNF) total number of points for boats racing e.g. 9 boats start, 8 finish, 9 points to the non-finisher. Boats that do not start (DNS) total number of points + 5 e.g. 9 boats start, 9 points + 5 = 14 points to a DNS. A minimum of three boats starting is required for the race to be included in the points series.

At the end of the season hopefully nine or ten races will have been sailed, four discards will be allowed, removing the 4 highest points scored over the season, when all points are totalled the person with the lowest score will become the club champion.

All races except The Harvey Salver Ladies Race and the Junior Helm will count towards the Club Championship. All results will be calculated using the CYCA and Funcap systems and two results will be announced. Trophies will be presented, as previous years, using the Funcap results. The results are calculated by the race results programme, running totals will be shown without any discards.

Logs for entry into the Shelan Trophy should be submitted by the end of October to the vice commodore. An independent judge will read each log and the best shall be awarded the Shelan Trophy. Sailing and motor boats are eligible.
